All of us on the party with Captain Lewis are very excited for we have just discovered the falls. Soon we will send a messenger down the river to find Captain Clark and bring him and his crew here.

I am on the search party going up the left side of the river with Captain Lewis. While Captain Clark explores the right branch. All the men are aware of Captain Lewis' sickness, but now we notice Sacajawea is getting ill.

The past few days have been very interesting due to the fact that we have found a fork in the Missouri. All most all of our crew believe they should take the right branching river based on the fact that this side had the same muddy color and flowed in the right direction. The captains think differently however. They think that the left branch is the correct river because of its clearness of just comming out of the mountains. I am very suprised with the loyalty of the rest of the crew. All the men will follow the captains even though they disagree.

At dawn we finally begin to see the looming peeks of the mountains before us. This is a very exciting site, but also a very scary one to think that we have to cross those! Last night a savage buffalo besieged our camp. It it wern't for Seaman the captains would have bin killed, say some of the men. As well as almost killing, the buffalo caused alot of damage to our camp.
